Sure looks oily, be running a compression check,
does it smell like gas?
Compression bad? Add oil to that cylinder and run it again, still down its in the valves, if it comes up with oil its bad rings.

None of the plugs look super though...

Last tune up was at least 10 years ago if not more. Sat for a long time, only 130,000 miles. I couldn't tell what it smelt like but it could've been gas. Plug wires are awful, but they hadn't come in to the parts store yet so I haven't replaced those yet.

Bad plug wire or connector, see how the cap has arcing residue on the one post? Means it couldn't get out of the cap to go to the plug. And the plug wasn't getting a good hot spark so it varnished up.

That's what I'm hoping. I'll be putting wires in tomorrow.

I've had that happen because I didn't have the connector pushed onto the plug head inside the boot. It was trying to jump a long air gap to get to the plug causing a weak intermittent spark.

Some of the connectors in the plugs didn't really want to click if you know what I'm saying. I bent a couple smaller to get them to fit better, but I definitely need to get new wires on it.

Starting the dash mod for installing a full double-din dvd/Nav system in. May take a while, but will post pic when it's done.
I've seen it done, heard it's a PITA, but the results definitely look like it's worth the effort..... Why the flip did Jeep decide it was a good idea to go with a 1.5 din slot in the XJ? There were vehicles with full double din openings back then OEM.... I know, my 99 Tacoma 4x4 ext. cab had an OEM one Tape/radio on top with cd right under it.

Oh well... here I go.

You can buy a cheap fiberglass welding blanket at HF or Scamazon.

I threw more money at it...again... What did you do to your Cherokee today?-20180101_010802.jpg

Bought the set of black 18s and no one else had 18s in stock so got a set of used 18s in red from the flop shop I saved $800 and promptly ordered a set of solid keyed d60 knuckles with that "saved " cash to bling up from the plated stockers.

For years they would ask me "do you want some dielectric grease to put those on with?" and I would say no thank you. Well I was wrong, use it. lol

I cut small pieces out at a time with an angle grinder and used a spot weld cutter and a seam buster. I'm still working on welding the last part of the floor in. I decided to have the new panel overlap the good parts and plug weld them in.

Grabbed my barstool, dropped the tailgate and tore this apart for new seals and bearings. Synchros look like someone has already replaced them. Took me about 3.5hrs (I can't stand up too long so work, rest, work. Lol)

Been trying to get work done on the rust of the manche, but I just find more and more. It's looking like I need to pull the dash to get to the stuff on the firewall and I just don't have the time or motivation right now to do it. I may fix as much as I can in the floors and such and pull the dash in the summer and fix the firewall. I'm almost to the point of selling this thing. Also, the clutch master started leaking so I need to replace that again after 200 miles. So much for duracrap.
