Not the end of the world if it is something worse. These motors are cheap and easy to rebuild. Ill probably get started on pulling the head tonight and finish pulling it tomorrow. Should only take 2 hours to get the head off. Love how simple these Jeeps are to work on.
I just hope that someone has replaced the head before with a Tupy. I forget to check last night when I had the valve cover off. If its a standard 0331, not sure I want to put it back on even if its not cracked.

You got it home somehow. Im sure you can also figure something out for the 1500 miles it would need to go. But just think, once its here, ill pull the trans for you and you can take it. Dont worry about the comanche, ill take care of the rest of it. Look on the positive side, you will have nothing to tow home. Win win situation as I see it.
How did you not see it fall out? And not to be mean but if you think installing a thermostat is a pain, a Jeep is not for you.

Well it is not a LSD. And for future reference, it is easy to tell through the plug hole. 
The LSD squared off carrier would have been right in your face at the plug hole. And you can feel the shape of the tapered open carrier through the hole with your finger.
Bummer, back to square one. I have no idea why it is skipping and acting like an LSD in tight turns on the dirt? I can even see it in the tracks it leaves.

Yah it didn't completely fall out so it left a gap in the housing and when I started it up it was puking coolant.
Deal with it tomorrow and hope the thermostat or housin g isn't damaged.

Not to tell you something you don't already know, but it sounds like there's a chunk of something floating around in the spiders. I'm sure there's a decent junk yard or two near you. Might wanna try your luck finding an 8.25 out of the JY with the TracLok in it. I mean, you can buy the LSD carrier and everything you need to convert it on Rock Auto, but that's big cheese!

That is true but I find that it takes longer that way and it is a very tight squeeze out. Those engines sit so far under the cowl its not even funny. You cant even get your hand back there! And 15 hours was to pull the engine out (and everything else) and put it back in.

Got it (us) a new home! Havent been on in awhile due to wedding and buying the house. I now have a shop, so progress should speed up.

Neglected the ZJ last night due to comfiness of the couch, woke up a bit early and got to work late but managed to fix the defroster blower motor and the drivers side headlight. Felt like driving a whole new Jeep with 2 working headlights and heat in the 15* weather
