Looks a little large to be a 44. Check the gussets, should have a 60 on it if it is.

Rear axle in Ford?

What you may have there is a D61, found on a lot of F250 and some F350 vans.

The reason I asked this ? is b/c we were installing a full spool today with 5.13 gears. Pinion went in fine. The Spool though when we installed was about 1/4" away from the pinion. The only way we could get it to touch the pinion was to space the ring gear out with some washers. Now, we know we can not install it that way we were just testing. What we were thinking is that we got the wrong spool like the 4.56 and down one instead of the 4.56 up spool. Anyones opinions?

I have been doing some research. It actually sounds like I have a dana 61 which had the pinion spaced over more b/c of the running a 3.07 gear ratio. So we now have some problems b/c from what I read you can not put this set up in the axle. Now, I guess we search for a dana 60.

Did some searching and looks like you can get a ring gear spacer to make it work. Good chance you have some oddball 31 spline shafts that will need to be replaced to use the 30 or 35 spline spool. Ballistic Fab can make the spacer for you.

Ok we ordered the spacer and then after talking to people we also got the pass side of the spool milled down 1/8" so the bearing would sit in further and shift the spool Rt. Then we also ordered a spacer for the Left side to take up for it. now in total we are moving the ring gear over 7/16" So, That should work. I will post results.
