You're right about the G80. Fortunately, this is not a G80. Its derived from the design is all.

If it helps, we have actively raced with these. That includes jumping, crawling, and lots of mud/dirt at higher RPMs. In fact the only person I know that it failed on them is the owner of Ironman4x4, Andy Carter. He was going faster than all hell in a field hit a bump or something (I have no idea why or how lol) and blew it. Thats the first case I've heard of them failing. Not to say if you go bogging every weekend, you won't blow it sooner then later.

Don't get me wrong its junkyard item..bottom line. Definitely not new.
Sorry, Gov Lock.
Would love to see some video of it crawling in action. Would also like to see some pics of it from a few angles. Curious how strong the case is.

We finished our latest and final video for the volvo diff swap. If you haven't seen the others, definitely check them out first. Good info.

Many videos to come, so like subscribe or something.

Did you find a point where the wheel with traction couldn't help? I know you said that you left off the throttle when getting over that rock but it still seemed to be challenging for the lsd. Great video though, and lots of info.

It can be if you don't let it lock up a little with some wheel spin. There needs to be a 100rpm difference in the wheels for it to start throwing power around. So as you could see in the video, it jerked forward but he had no forward go, leaving it useless. However, when he backed up and went it pulled him forward (yeah pushed around the rock, but he wasn't stopping). A little momentum is all you need when running this. Other than that a locker in that case would of done the trick.

A lot was wet so traction wasn't easiest in the first place. So yeah it was challenged I'd say.

At the end of the day a locker over this might leave you better off more often than not depending on the situation.

Question

Well I went to my local yard on 1st word mentioned by a guy I had seen at Napa. When he told me about this I went the next day and BAM!!, 745gTa. Which translates to a 740, Boosted, Auto which had 41/11 which is 3.73. I cant wait to install it since I will never go larger than 32's anyway. My ***** came with 411's from the factory in my D30. My 8.25 also same, so I lucked out when I 1st bought her and now the LSD from a Volvo. Sad to say the guy at Napa was looking for a LLLOOONNNGGG time and still hasn't found one, as he so mentioned on that day. All LSD's are the same internally, ring and pinion are only difference. Doesn't matter if its a 1030/ single rib or a 1031/ dual rib axle. The one I got came from a 1030/ single rib which is claimed ONLY to have 355's or below, actually it had 373's. And Im sure 411 is looming somewhere out there in that 1030/single rib axle. So this is a G80 diff is what your saying, NO TrueTrac or Trac Lok? G 80?

I must have the luck of the damned.Checked 3 more today. One 740 and two 240s. All had 4.11 open diffs. Oh well the hunt is half the fun.

Yes I have but the links described only details only for the 240 and 740 models not the 940 but reading Into a whole bunch of Volvo threads stating and not insuring that the carrier/LSD in the 940 models fits into the 240,740 models with shaving the axle shafts....and some other mods....but before buying and trying it out with my dd...Id rather have someone with experience tell me it's ok to grab it....

I am very interested in this 940 thing. By nature, no one really wants to buy something and have it end up being junk. The sad truth there's no real way to see if it will work with the lack of info online. You kinda just have to bite the bullet and try. Unless you sit the JY with it and take notes and measurements then comparing that to a 240/740 one.

The fact you found an LSD 4.10 in a 940 excites me. I'm gonna take a gander next time I'm at the JY and pop one open to see what we're looking at. If it looks like all the others than we could be on to something.

So my question to you is, does it look the same as the 240/740?

Hmm good find. When you go back, take note of the axle number. It should be imprinted somewhere on the housing or maybe even a diff tag if it has one. Also the driver door might have Axle info on the sticker, European cars might be different idk.

After seeing these pics and what that conversation on turbobricks said, I'd reckon we have a winner. Pull it, and try it. By god I think you've done it Watson.
