VM engine?
 

Hi Folks

I'm Steve, an ex pat Brit now living in Portugal but before that, spent many years living in south Africa and am new on this forum.

I've owned a 1982 Cherokee Laredo for about 10 years. I bought the car in South Africa and shipped it over to Portugal when I emigrated here about 18 months ago.

I'l in the throes of changing one of my cars and have been offered a 2000 (diesel) Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 90000 kms on the clock.

The car has the 3100 cc VM diesel engine but my research tells me those engines have an awful lot of mixed reviews.

Some people hate 'em and others say if you change the oil & filters in plenty of time they're a good engine.

Oh & if it'll help, I'm not overly heavy on the right foot & the car won't need to do any hard offroading or towing.

Your opinions gentlemen please?

Bringing this back to the top in the hope someone can tell me about the VM diesel engine.

I'm due to look at the car mentioned above tomorrow and hope to get some tips & opinions beforehand.

We don't have those over here but you could check the International section in Wheeling neighborhoods. I'm sure other members near you have one or experience with that engine.

I'm sorry and stand corrected. That engine was purchased by Detroit Diesel in 95 here.
