Default Vent Under Spare Tire?

I took out my spare tire today and noticed behind the spare tire on the plastic interior panel there is a vent with mesh overtop of it. The vent is completely clogged with dust and dirt. Does anyone know what the vent is for?

Might be there to help vent/evap the water that gets caught in the lower quarter panel. I pulled the side panels in the rear after a big rain storm and must of had a gallon of water on both sides. Went a head and removed the body plug on both sides, no need for water helping my rust belt issues.

If it vented to the outside wouldn't it allow moisture to enter and fog up the windows? Could it be a AC return?

I would say it is an air return or something. Since it is full of dust and dirt then I would say that it is drawing air through it at times.

I have it also! was always curious what it was for I think it is a cabin vent but at the same time it could be to help keep air flow up by the gas cap so the fumes don't build up

After work, I'm going to take the side panel off and see what's under it.

its a pressurization vent. it only opens out and is supposed to flap back and not let air in. its so you can close your doors and so the ac blows properly.

it there was no pressurization vent, the ac would not circulate because it would be trying to push air into a sealed box.
