The unkillable XJ
 

My commute to work is a whole 2.5 miles. Not far at all. However, living in Virginia Beach means there are 9 billion vehicles on the road, many of them imports. That being said, it's pretty rare to see very many domestics of the same type. However, during my drive into work today, I saw 6 XJ's (not including mine) on the road. It still amazes me that Chrysler stopped making such an amazing vehicle!

5 people at my school, including me, drive jeep cherokees. Mine is a 99. There is another that is a 01. The rest are between 90 and 96.
Mine has 163k, friends 90 has 180k and looks pretty beat, other kids has 232k and still looks pretty good other than the hood.

On my way home I ALWAYS pass another green 99 with a chrome grille insert. Occasionaly I'll pass another between 90-96. That brings my total to 7 a day. My drive to school is only 7 miles.

A lady in my neighborhood owns a 2001.

I'm always seeing cherokees.

Yeah here in Culpeper Va and in Manassas Va where I work there are a lot. Prob pass at least 20 each day. Only seen one broke on the side of the road. Nobody was in it or else I would've stopped.:sad:

Pretty amazing, think about all the XJ's you see, not only on this and other Jeep sites, but on the road, or worse, in the junkyard. To think the South Toledo plant pumped out 2,884,172 of these things over 17 years is pretty awesome, and proud to be an owner of a few of them.

I live in Superior, WI and work in Duluth, MN. On my commute home, I see anywhere between 5-15 a day. These things are insanely popular in my area(probably due to the crappy winters and need for 4x4). They are all years and conditions. I work at 430am and my neighbor drives a 97 that he delivers the papers with. I see him every morning at the same gas station. Now I know you tend to notice the same vehicle that you drive, but I have been seeing these things long before I bought one. In fact it was one of the motivators to buy one. I figured if so many people had them and they stopped making them 8-9 years ago, they must be one hell of a vehicle. My uble had one when I was a kid. His wan an 87 and he had it forever. Long live the XJ!

funny that this thread popped up...i live in So Cal and drive for work.rarely the same place twice..on Los Angeles freeways there are days I wont see one and then there are days that I see 20...so many 4x4 cherokees on the streets of so cal...betchya 85+% have never seen 4high or low...the only good thing about LA...many a RUST FREE Cherokee...hey that kinda rhymes :)...i will be here all night :thumbup1:

I still see plenty of pre 97 XJs here in CT and it doesn't surprise me as mine has 220000 miles and still running strong. YJs are still common around here too.

I heard that.. one of the main reasons I looked for an XJ to replace my Dodge was that I saw so many around, I figured that they must be some reason why they were so popular. Also, that means there are spare parts aplenty lol

I see at least a dozen every day going to work, and not always the same ones. I bought mine because I always loved them when I was groing up. What shocked me was how inexpensive they are. It shows the real lack of appreciation for these things.

^^x2! I'm a total gear head and have been into cars for as long as I can remember. I love cars and trucks and out of every vehicle out there, my dream one had always been an XJ. What took me so long to finally get one I don't ahve a clue, but for the past 2 years, I've been happier with this thing than any other car I've owned (this is my 9th I think). Just the number of 'em still on the road is proof how great these things are!

I have one and looking to buy another for the wife, the Chevy van (fullsize) has had it. I always see xj's on my way to work, around 11 at night.
