So,

Why is the Cherokee made with a unibody and not a frame? If the unibody is a better design, What are the advantages?

it was back when jeep wanted to make a mid sized SUV as light as possible due to the whole sports car era

from what i remember reading you get the strength body with light weight that easy to produce.

Lighter weight meant more power from a smaller motor (4.0.. small yeah right)

but you also had strength. Ever seen one in a crash like a T-bone crash. yeah it survives rather well

Lighter, stronger body, cheaper to make, and more ground clearance.

each has its own advantages and disadvantages. but for the best purpose of an XJ, unibody is better.
