AT Tyres

I've jst lifted my Jeep and am looking at putting some AT tyres on - 31X10.5XR15.

BFG's seem to be popular - are they worth the extra money over say a general grabber. What others can be considered

go to treadwright.com and check out their tires, they are cheaper because they are recaps, but I have heard good things from people about their tires.

I've heard complaints on the BFGs that they don't last long and that off road the sidewalls tear easily. People that have the Grabbers love them. They last longer and perform as well if not better offroad and don't cost as much. The Yokoama Geolander AT pretty good AT that are not that expensive but they are also not that aggressive(quieter on a DD).

I've heard nothing but good things about the BFG so I'm surprised - but in a good way. They seem the obvious choice but I hate being a sheep !!

General Grabbers look like a nice alternative

any more

i have 33's BFG on my jeep i love them. ive heard the sidewalls tear on the trail too, but they definetaly DO last long. my dad had a pair on his old truck that he rotated every time he changed his oil and lasted him almost 80k

I had a set of BFG A'Ts and at 35,xxx miles they still had half tread.

Have new KM2s now and they have 10,xxx miles on them and they still have the exact same tread as they did new

my dad has bfg ats on his wrangler and they are louder than my aggressive mud tires (t-34s).

Bud they seem to be wearing good on his wrangler

Like I said I have only heard this from 2 guys at work ,about the BFGs. One went to Firestone Dest. AT and the other went to Grabbers. I also like the look of the Goodyear Duratrac but I haven't talked to any one who has run them.

what do you think road noise will be on the KM2 vs the BFG AT

jonnyb78 01-31-2010 11:20 AM

i have had bfg at in lots of vehicles over the years. they are great tires. they are NOT noisy on road. i have heard the sidewalls are weak on the trail but i never tore one. the original bfg kms have the same sidewall and i never tore one of them either. the km2s are a mud terrain so they will be louder than at tires. i never used them so i cant say how loud they might be. just turn ur stereo up and u will be fine

i wouldnt recomend general grabbers, granted they where a decent tire but not worth the money now have a set of BFG KM2's best tire ive had. Not to noisy until you hit like 65 but thats when you turn the radio down and listen to the hummmmm

The km2 is louder than the A/T. I couldnt hear anything with the A/T. With the km2 you can hear it but its not overly noisy

in my opinion, BFG ATs are only good if you are going to drive them up and down the freeways bc they will last 65000 miles easy...but, they do nothing but get caked in mud and then they dont clean out...they have whats called a "closed lug design" and if you look at them, there isnt a path from the mud to make its way to the edge...they are horrible..

some good ATs are Mastercraft CTs...very agressive tire for not being a mud tire
