He is running 8 psi, but I'm not sure when he sees boost or anything like that
|
If its a turbo its gota be in high roms 3000 to 4500..
|
I thought with a smaller turbo it would be lower RPMs? And with the bigger turbos it would be higher up in the RPM range.
|
No clue idk....i know turbos kick in normaly high rpms

With only 8 PSI it shouldn't kick in that late. |
Hmm I didn't know that
|
I know nothing about turbos. I'm just going off what I've read in a few diesel enthusiast magazines.
|
I know a lil not to much
|
The only info I have is from Evan (the op) and my buddy who is into the import racing scene. I've been trying to read up and learn lately though because I want to either put one in my xj or pick up a smaller car to play with turbos and what not with.
|
How much total boost he is trying to run makes no difference in what rpm he starts to see boost at. Turbos can start making boost st any rpm, just depends on the setup.

This is true, but most people try to run 15-20+ PSI on them..
With only 8 PSI it shouldn't kick in that late. Spool time is effected by several things. And not all setups spool late. My Eclipse with a 2.0 would hit 14 lbs (stock boost) well under 2200 rpm. |
So what kind of setup would it be if you wanted to start making boost at low RPMs?
Or how would you set that up? Hopefully that makes sense. |
SmallER compressor wheel with a medium hotside.
The idea is to get decent exhaust flow without choking the motor out. It would be a hybrid turbo, that's for sure. |

They are a blast. My 93 Eclipse was AWD and made over 500whp running over 31psi.
