Default Turbo Cherokee XJ-R autocross pictures and videos

Just wanted to share some pictures and videos from our last autocross. Out of 106 cars the XJ-R had the 10th fast time of the day beating out a bunch of prepped Miata's, M3's, a 400WHP 07 Lotus Exige S, 07 Porsche 997 C2S, plus a bunch of other stuff.

Quick fireball video

That's awesome. Nothing like a box on wheels beating small sports cars. Lol

Looked like some excellent driving btw.

What class did you run in ? and how many vehicles were in your Class ? I highly doubt you had 100 cars in your Class.

We were running with the Boston BMWCCA club and were in Class M (modified). There were about 10 other drivers in our class but over all with all the groups combine we had the 10th fastest time of the day. Our teammate Dave had a few runs good enough for 5th but they were not clean. We placed second in our class behind the tube frame VW kit car and FTD went to a 07 Porsche GT3 RS. The fact that its competitive at all in autocross makes us laugh.

Our team originally started building the Jeep back in 2008 as a joke for the Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. Currently we have just under $2000 into the whole build including tires, wheels, paint, cost of the Jeep, and pretty much everything else except the stock front brakes.

Awesome cherokee, congrats. Ever do any 1/8 or 1/4 mile testing with it? Any idea how much hp/tq it's making?

Our 1/4 mile times are not too impressive. We've still have a few issues that we're working to fix. First the AW4 likes starting in 2nd gear after doing a burnout to warm the slicks. When it does start in 1st it will short shift to second around 3500 RPMS. Next we need a little more brake bias to the rear because when we stage the wheels will spin instantly when we try to brake torque. Ebrake is not hooked up either. Wish we could find a cheap 2WD AX-15 or rig up a custom shifter. Our fastest time is 14.01@98 mph with a 2.1 60'.

We did have it on the dyno last year but had trouble holding boost to redline due to a boost leak. We hit about 6 psi then it dropped off to about 3-4 psi. If you look at the curve you can see where the boost started to drop off. Also the transmission likes to downshift so it was tough to try and get any numbers below 2500 RPMs. The turbo starts to build boost around 1600 RPMS and will hit 6 psi by 2800 RPM.

201 HP / 263 TQ at the wheels.

With the boost leak fixed we are running 7 psi to redline no problem and hope to have it back on the dyno later this year. We've even had it up to 12 psi but our intercooler and pipes are a huge restriction.

Cool, my last GRM Challenge car was a 91 Turbo Miata but I didn't get into autocrossing till after I sold it. Someday I'd like to have another. I'm guessing you had some suspension work done to put yours in STS?
