towing question
ok well me and a buddy of mine are going to buy a xj and fix it up, it doesnt have a tcase and the tierod is bent, so we were gonna rent a uhual car hualer trailer and tow it to his house, I have a drawtight class III hitch with a rating of 5500lbs. its been used to pull me out and tow around a small trailer with trash. would it be ok to tow another xj home with my rig? probably a total of 15miles if even that, its about 20ish mins away. also how much would it be to rent a car hualer from uhual?

if you show up with a cherokee to rent a car trailer, they won't rent it to you.
your best bet is to rent the dolly, and just tell them you are picking up a civic.
you should be fine towing another xj with the dolly. since you said it has no t-case, then it won't matter about the front wheels up rolling on the rears.
just take your time, slow down way before any corners, and keep a safe distance. and make sure you strap the xj on the dolly with minimum of 4 safety straps/chains for dmv standards. (2 straps/2 chains). and X your safety chains.

And Russ, you wouldve killed me, if you saw how I towed the last vehicle I had on a dolly......the only thing keeping it on, was one D-ring I attached, GO REGULATIONS! ....it didnt have a rear axle either tho, just leaf springs in the wheel divots.

if you don't have minimum of 4 tie down points, dmv will ruin your day.
2 straps to hold the jeep onto the dolly, with at least one safety chain. and 2 chains crossed (they have to be crossed) from the dolly to the tow vehicle.
