I think your talking about the rear valve which sends the air out into the intake. I'm I incorrect?
Look at the picture above. That is sucking the fumes from the valve cover into the intake to burn them. There is always a little positive pressure in an engine (certain race motors excepted). If you eliminate the tubing to the intake manifold you will blow mist out of the valve cover.

If there is a second pcv valve that also attaches to the intake somewhere, that might be enough to counter it.

meh, it's under the hood, so i can't see it.

mine didn't have an airbox when i bought it either, so that's basically what i have. only a stock rubber air tube fit to a k&n cone filter. i had a pre-filter bag on it, but removed it for my first cleaning, and couldn't find it again.

compared to my tj, it still gets better gas mileage without a shield. i don't have any tubes or lines hooked into it, and it still passes emissions with killer low numbers.
