thinking of getting an XJ, ? about fuel economy
Hi all,
I love my 95 ZJ to death, but i dont love the gas mileage. I get around 11 on a good day.
Ive been tossing around the idea of getting a cheap, bare bones XJ to knock around in, and keep the ZJ for towing/hauling and wheeling. Im thinking a 4 banger, 5 speed, 2wd.
could i pull 20mpg with that, or am i crazy?

The 4 cylinder won't save you much in fuel, the I6 will get you between 15 to 20 on the highway. I would just drive the ZJ and not spend money on another vehicle to insure just to "save" a few bucks in gas. You actually save nothing and end up spending more.

want mpg's then get a car.. I accepted that finally I'd rather pay more in gas for something I enjoy since I have to drive a lot seeing as I'm in such a rural area

but i'm with the other realists here. get an econobox car for fuel economy. when 500+hp cars are getting 25 mpg it's time to say wtf.

Yeah I'm acquiescing to the idea that the XJ is becoming less of a daily driver and more of a toy. Time to start looking for a cheap 30+mpg car to run to work. No need for the XJ on the freeway to be honest.

That's what I did, I still drive the xj in the snow though. My dd gets like 35mpg. Saves me a **** ton of money. Plus it helps having two cars in the event one is broken and I need to go get parts. I don't have to worry about finishing all the work in one day.

and 495.32 times the maintenance and repair costs.
I love german cars. I'm mostly into Vw's but European cars are usually a PITA. I got the jeep as a dd while I work on my Gti VR6 and my Jetta VR6
I like the jeep so much it's kind of becoming it's own project and the cars are being forgotten

Get an xj, you won't be disappointed, unless your looking for that yj or tj swag that some believe in... For now, xj is my baby, good for a first car. In a few years, I'll get a nice tj with a 4.0 and a 5spd
