I've seen one for the trans cooler but not that would take an internal temp...

From what I know of auto transmissions. you should be able to just use any standard aftermarket gauge like this: Trans Temp Gauge <- clicky!

And just plumb the sensor in at the outlet for the transmission cooler line.

you can't ever really get a true "internal" temp on a transmission without ton of work(if at all). The fluid going through the output from the transmission to the cooler is going to be the same temp as the fluid inside the transmission

the trans temp guage on my Mack is directly threaded in to the trans housing above the cooler housing. I am sure you could find something in a speed shop, and if you put a "T" on the output line on the trans you could get a close temp reading

Buy one, and plumb it in to the transmission output line that goes to the cooler.

Lynne,
That gauge on ebay comes with a sender... ("sensor" as you call it)
Sending Unit Included Yes
You could plumb the sender into the trans cooler line as suggested, or you could weld a bung into the fluid pan. Keep in mind that this gives you the temp of the fluid circulating, and not the temp of the fluid in the Torque converter... the torque converter is that part that gets hottest, AFAIK

They make tranny temp gages. They go in line on the cooler lines. They also make temp actuated switches. You can use one out of a radiator that controls the fans, B&M puts them on their fan operated tranny cooler.

The switch for this cooler switches on and off at 160 degrees.

you can get the ones where you drill a hole in the trans oil pan.

i suppose you could do it to a transfer case if you wanted, but i see no real reason

I mean, is there a reason to monitor transfer case temps? its not like you can regulate them.
