tail light protection

anyone recommend what to use for tail light protection, to try to keep them from getting crushed? iv seen some guards, anything thats fairly cheap to use?

azxj99 Oct 25, 2010 09:30 PM

i have some guards sitting in my garage $50 shipped

Svrider Oct 25, 2010 09:52 PM

yeah ive seen guards where do you find those? got any pics of the ones you got? ive tried looking a few places and only seen em for the grands. i dont need em for a grand for reg.

hey if svrider doesnt want those, ill take them. they are the ones that look like the ones on all of those land rover/range rovers right?

azxj99 Oct 25, 2010 09:55 PM

they are for the 97+ years, idk if they will fit for earlier years, they bolt on the taillights, they are black and made of metal and look pretty beefy

Svrider Oct 25, 2010 09:59 PM

go for it 78 im just browsin myself. i think im gonna get a set of bumpers first before i get into light guards.

azxj99 Oct 25, 2010 10:03 PM

hey 78 what year is your xj? sorry jeepxj19 for stealing your thread. guards are the only thing you can do that i know of

Svrider Oct 25, 2010 10:16 PM

you could put that clear plastic coating on em, kinda like a sticker, but it will only strengthen the plastic/protect from scratches. it wont protect against a tree like the guards. ive used it on headlights for a sportbike once

i have a 95 XJ, so i dont think those will work?

azxj99 Oct 26, 2010 02:10 PM

I may be able to check tonight but not sure. I'll have to have my friend come over that drives a 92 and see

or you could make a tail light box, buy 2 red-3 way lights, and 2 white lights, you know the cheap round ones, and go to home depot, get some small metal rod, and make your own covers

I hate to be rude, but i generally worry about stuff in front of me.

I would expect they would be more applied toward side impacts. Sliding sideways off a rock/off camber situation, slamming into a tree/another rock. Or on tight trails when you are barely scraping through.

If your really worried about smashing out your tail lights rustysoffroad.com has full replacement tail lights for xjs. They are pretty nice. And real rugged.
