Default Swapping in a dash with gages instead of lights

Has anyone taken their stock, non gage dash out and installed one with gages? What additional work is needed? I know the sensors will need to be replaced for the gages to work but will the existing wiring hook up to the new sensors? Thanks. Coach

people do it alot.. do some searching and you will find alot of posts.
you need a cluster close to the year of yours (91-93 would pry be the best bet), senders for oil pressure and water temp, and thats it. Everything else just plugs in.

Be sure to either get the new cluster matched to your mileage or take your title in and tell them you did a cluster swap.

I was hoping to be able to swap my odometer in, no such luck I guess. Now I just have to find one. Thanks. Coach

Talk to Skunkape, he did it. I don't think he had to change anything but the guages

Sorry just saw what year yours is. He did it on a 97.

Change the temperature sensor (driver's side rear of cylinder head) and the oil pressure sensor (near distributor base) to parts that will drive gages.

You should be able to swap your speedo and odo into the new cluster, and preserve your reading that way. That was how I did it (150-160Kmiles ago. I'm not sure, the speedo cable broke and the odo quit working. I figure I'm up around 340-350Kmiles now...)

I'm still wanting to do this but all the ones I'm seeing with electronic speedo's don't match the color of my original cluster. I've seen plenty of clusters with mechanical speedos that match, what's the deal??? What year did they switch to electronic speedo's and what year did they change the "style/appearance" of the cluster? Why is there a blue case and white case?? What is the difference?? Coach
