I like that idea Bugout! That is something I can rig up for sure.
Seeing that we are going on 2 weeks now, I dont have much hope that the Jeep will return. If it does, its probably going to be stripped to nothing but a body.

a "new-fangled" way I read about that sounded very effective..if ur tech savvy with mobile phones.
the way it works, is you buy a dedicated mobile phone, I am not sure how the data plan works, had me stumped, but apparently very cheap
install an "app"..it for this purpose... auto security
works like "grinder"..ie alerts you when a "friend" is nearby
(works off satellite GPS location)
so you set the car (with dedicated phone inside) up as a "friend"...and nearby objects..and your regular mobile phone
if your "friend (car)" moves away from your other "friends (locations)"..it sends you an alert
if the thieves make a getaway, they are fully tracked
go around, execute thieves, recover property
cost less than $100 + data
in my opinion, some home grown electrical switch/mod would deter most thieves...after all, if they really want it, a towed trailer with winch is convenient
I fooled one once, he got down the road, but stalled (fuel pump), had to abandon it in the middle of the road, doors wide open, wiring nightmare, like a jeep

Well everyone, the Jeep has been found! Guess it was one block away from where it was stolen. Apparently no damage and nothing missing, they said that the ignition wasnt even punched... The Jeeps owner is going to pick it up from the impound yard today and park it at my house for a while. First step is going to be putting some sort of kill switch in it to make sure this doesnt happen again.

Well the tow yard said it wasnt stripped. Their definition could be different then mine haha. I guess we will find out for sure this afternoon when the owner goes and picks it up. At least he is getting it back. Thats all that really matters.

It is very possible. The odd thing was that nothing is missing except the pine cone that was hanging off the mirror (which he is very sad about haha). He said that everything in the center console was all over the place but nothing missing. The radio was still there too. What we think is that they thought the thing was about to blow up. Last off road trip we went on, he broke an exhaust hanger and hasnt fixed it yet. It makes some very loud noises and if you didnt know what the noise was, you would not want to drive it. Its that bad.
What we really dont get is that it looks like there are no pry marks on the doors, the door cylinder is still working fine and not punched out and the ignition cylinder is perfectly fine too. Almost like they had a key for it... Or were they just that good?

X2, these locks weren't very secure to begin with, add 20+ years of wear and just about anything that is close to the right shape will operate them if you "play with it" a little. The only reasonably secure XJs from the factory (as apposed to ones modified with kill-switches, etc.) are the ones that came equipped with the Sentry Key (RFID chip in the head).
