Steam Cleaning Your Engine !!!! A time of the past??
 

Seems to me a handful of years ago steam cleaning engines was something any vehicle owner had done at least once..

last time I had it done was around 7 or 8 years ago on an old work truck we was doing some work on.. Then it was $25...

I've been considering having it done to my rig after I finish paint and lift so I looked up a detail place and only found one doing it for $50, although I didn't search much I thought it was something I could take in to practically any detail shop.... I know the EPA has a lot to do with it and thus the doubling in price..

anyone have it done recently??

Oil Eater from costco and my electric pressure washer. Put baggies over the dizzy and throttle body at a bare minimum.

I've seen dozens of "no start" threads after washing the engine.
Takes 3 days to evaporate and start again. Not worth it.

Not so much, my great uncle still has is Merc steam cleaned

I haven't? I mean we see XJs deep in water and run home right after just fine.

Done correctly, it's a non-issue.

I've pressured washed many engines, and I mean A LOT... and the worst that ever happen to me was a hesitant start....

the dozens of "no start" threads you've seen are by people that probably shouldn't be driving a vehicle in the first place, let alone owning one....

My driveline isn't to bad on top I pressure washed and degreased it when I bought it, (though wasn't too bad then) but underneath hasn't been cleaned and I cant see myself under there on ramps trying to degrease and pressure wash it... especially in the winter months... :p

I may shop it out in hopes to get it done $30 or not at all and focus on getting everything up to par... pending how winter is I may take it to a quick wash and bring my ramps and do the whole undercarriage as I'll probably end up painting it :D

Anything else? Like the PCM or ???? Been wanting to clean my engine but all I know of covering is the dist, throttle and PCM.

no just be mindful of electronic looms, dizzy etc... I've done it before without covering anything you just go around the 'hot spots' and concentrate where the grime really is... but it only takes a second to grab a plastic bag

steam cleaned engine is much better cleaner then I've ever been able to get with degreaser and pressure

I've heard numerous horror stories. Can't say that they were done correctly but still. I'm sticking to my hand cleanings with gunk spray and a rag lol

You're in Jersey and BummerJeeper's in New York. Maybe you could get together and clean each other's engines?

^^Lol and a write up would be helpful so a newbie wont destroy their engine... you guys seriously need to get together..

I wonder how well Brakleen would work underneath?? I may give that a go
