Spring choices

Im wondering who makes better springs Clayton or rubicon express mostly looking at 4.5 full leafs to replace my aal but eventually may get new coils as well

clayton by a long shot. but you'll be sitting pretty high after you add shackles
look into OME 3.5" leaf packs

Power73 07-27-2012 02:56 AM

if your looking for a 4.5 inch leaf pack i would go with claytons forsure but if your looking for a overall 4.5 the claytons might not work unless you want to run the stock shackle

dillonreid 07-27-2012 07:05 AM

Well I think in the end I may shoot for 5.5 to 6.5 so Clayton is still on the table I just like rubicon expresses price more lol

Power73 07-27-2012 02:23 PM

haha yeah i hear you there but you get what you pay for. you could run the 4.5 pack with a longer shackle and get around 5.5 and if you wanted more you could get a shackle relocation bracket

I ran 2 rubicon express packs that turned to garbage within a month before I smartened up and went with Clayton.

Clayton by far sells the better leaf spring.

More leaves, military wrap, last i checked they were made in canada (as opposed to re's india)

Can you explain military wrap because I'm not sure what that is?

a traditional leaf spring eye just has the main leaf wrap around the front bushing. a military wrap eye also has the secondary leaf spring wrap around the first eye.

This makes for a stronger leaf pack, and its less prone to axle wrap. and in the event one of those leaf springs breaks, you still have the second one to get you home.

Oh okay I've seen this a lot just never knew what it was called. I have a one inch shackle so I think I may get 4.5 inch Clayton leafs and go from there. Are they true to height or are they like Rubicon express and higher than advertised?

They sat a little higher for a couple weeks iirc, but ended up settling to around 4.5" nicely

I run Deaver, and it rides awesome..

dillonreid 07-27-2012 05:45 PM

As long as they settle to 4.5 and flex well I'm fine

dillonreid 07-27-2012 05:46 PM

About how much did you pay for deaver?

Here you go.. Flexes well & rides so nice. They're actually a 4", you just use a boomerang shackle that's 2" longer than stock.
