Default spare tire in roof rack

Im just curious on how many of you keep your spare tire up top. If a lot of you do how do you keep it in place. I was thinking of leaving mine up there with a chain and lock.

thanks

I have mine up there on a Yakima Basket with a strap...I would not recommend not using the stock roof rail tho. With the tire up there mine where flexing so much it was hitting my roof. I got some gutter mounts and load bars, just a cheap off brand, they are doing ok, but I would look into some good strong rails rated for like 125lbs.

Well your ahead of the game then. Just use a ratchet strap or since you built your rack fab something like a plate at the bottom some threaded rods to go thru the lug nut holes and a large wing nut or something like that.

I use a ratchet strap and when I go wheeling my rig is bouncing and bobbing all over the place and it stays right up there.

You could always just set up a mount like is inside. Just a bar attached to the rack threaded on one end and then just use the inside mounting hardware to hold it down. Or a ive seens guys use those Y straps to hold tires down.
