solution to freeze plugs
I have been meaning to put new plugs in as mine are leaking pretty bad. I put jb weld on them in the winter just to hold them over and it worked alright. well i went to a bunch of shops and they all said around 800 to 1000. Thats a pretty crazy price. The reason i want a shop to do it is because if i do the plugs myself, the manifold bolts are pretty rusty and if a snap one im screwed. I have a 2000 with the bad head so i thought instead of spending a grand for just the plugs i would buy a new head and since all thebolts are on the head if i snap one it wont matter, so i can do the head swap myself. So i would save money and be getting the plugs done and also swapping out the bad head. I was just wondering while im in there doing all that, what else could i do? I was thinking radiator, water pump, hoses. What else would be good?

If you want to do them all, their estimate is pretty close. To do the rear ones, you need to pull the trans. The intake and exhaust on the drivers side of the block. It's pretty involved.

yeah, I know its a fair price but for that amount i can replace the head, do the plugs myself, and still have 300-400 left over for whatever else i wanna replace

Go ahead and do it. If you have a problem, you get to deal with it and there isn't any kind of a warranty. But in theory, you'll have money left. Maybe to do the job again.
With a shop doing this, you'll have a warranty and they can deal with any problems that will come up. |
Do a head change yourself and rid yourself that 0331 casting head. I got a tupy reman for around 400$ from j&c enterprises. In all it was around 700$ for everything. Itll be a bit more if you do radiator water pump and hoses.

hi..i would do it myself as well, and that way you know the job has been done right.no disrespect to any garage but its job satisfaction as well.good luck.

Yeah the head is 400 on eBay from j&c and new bolts and gaskets are another 130 so it'll be alot cheaper even if I do other stuff. I've watched plenty of videos and read online about head swapping and I'm pretty good mechanically so I feel I can do it no problems
