http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universa...ull&category=U Here's a site to contact Jeep. Fill it out, ask for the org. build sheet. They will tell you what you have. Takes about a couple of days to reply.

SE= Sport Edition is a sport would be my guess. My insurance card says SE. My registration and title say Sport. My window sticker says Sport.

The PO probably just put the "Sport" there. I'm pretty sure (someone correct me if i'm wrong) that the only Cherokees that came with the 2.5L 4cyl engines were the SE models. Sport models only came with the 4.0 I6.

ive got a se and its got the 4.0L in it, also i have been trying to figure out also what makes a se a se

Where on earth did you ever hear that? SE = one of 2 things: Standard Edition or Special Edition in the automotive industry. SE is and has been the base model XJ, available with either the 2.5 or 4.0. Sports added some options as standard equipment. If the VIN comes back saying it a SE, it's an SE, NOT a Sport.

dogger15 Feb 3, 2011 07:08 PM

thats what i was kinda thinking, i know my xj has roll up windows and non power locks in it made me think that is what makes it the se edition since it doesnt have the luxury options

SE stands for stripped edition. LOL:whistling2: Our '98 SE has 4 tires and a steering wheel, 4.0L, auto, a/c, and that's about it.

usually if its a sport it would have the silver emblem that say sport but after looking at it again it look like a sticker that if i heat it up i could peal it off with a razor. I'm going to take a picture on tuesday.

I didn't say the SE didnt' come with the 4.0L, i know it came with both engines. What I was saying is i'm pretty sure none of the other models came with the 2.5L. So, if you have a 2.5L 4cyl engine, it's an SE.

My understanding is it is either Standard Edition or Standard Equipment. I lean more towards Standard Edition though...

I have a 96 SE and a 95 Sport

The primary difference I see is the SE instrument cluster has Idiot Lights, the Sport Cluster has gauges.

Both have the 4.0 I6 motor.

Oh and the SE has Manual Windows/Locks.

The Sport has PW/PL.

I know the 4.0 I6 was an $800 +/- option for the SE

I have the original window sticker for the 96 SE but it's not with me right now.

Se is just a trim level of the Cherokee sport.

Nope. SE was a trim level of the Cherokee, as was Sport. The Cherokee Sport is not an SE.
