And you thought Nascar was the first to race trucks on the asphalt...

And maybe now a lowered MJ/XJ isn't so bad huh?

i wished they still raced.

and when i got my first MJ, i heard a RUMOR that there was one of the Archer Bro's trucks in a barn in my county. whether thats true or not is beyond me.

i think i remember reading somewhere that they all ran 4cyl and the jeeps dominated. i was thinking of lowering a cherokee at one point. but with better shocks, wider(not taller) tires and possibly a sway bar upgrade, a stock-height cherokee would do really well. maybe find a little stiffer front spring. its fun to dream...

WELL, "poor folk" CAN race llowered XJ's. There is one that it running well in the insanity that is called "Lemons", and two that are being prepped for the more "real racing" division called "Chump Car World Series".
I have a 1987 XJ that I will have ready for the first race of 2012, (I have to take my time to do it right, I'm "poor", remember?).
There is one other XJ that I have seen the photos of, and another, which would make it three XJ's, that I have heard of, but not seen any photos.

Mine's an XJ that looks like an MJ in profile. I has the rear 2/3's of it's roof gone, with only enough remaining, to keep the driver warm and dry during a race. (Chump Cars are endurance racers, with most of their races being the 24 hour type, and we race in the rain). We prefer the XJ's because they are a little stronger torsionally, not having the "bed' sides seperate from the "cab" sides. Brie

I know it is road racing, but I grew up at the track and I have thought of building a drag Chrokee XJ for a while now. Maybe....

Progress on the RoadRace XJ

Hey guys, it's been a while since I have been on here, but I have been REAL busy building our house AND working on the XJ that will be raced in the ChumpCar World Series starting March of next year.
I am a couple of days away from taking some photos of the progress on building the "junkyard" 4.5 liter stroker motor, lowering and stiffening the suspension, and chopping off 2/3's of the roof.
I have some photos, and need to know how large of a photo can I include with each post?
How do I load them up? Once I know how, I'll load up a few progress photos in a day or so.

Looks like one big difference in the exterior is often a larger front air dam. Is that something that's still popular?
