i took my 2019 cherokee and drove in the sand tire psi at 20 and yet i got stuck all tires where spinning don;t understand why

Wheels are to big and tires are to skinny to provide adequate flotation when aired down.

Too many factors involved. 20 PSI is still for sand IMHO.

less PSI i suppose. there's a tricky deal to how some tire/wheel combo's hold up to low psi

Hate to say this, but the late Cherokees are not set up for driving on soft surfaces. But you can make improvements if you want. Sand is all about horsepower and tires. Horsepower is adequate, but not up to climbing tall dunes. But the tire department is something you can improve if you want. It is all about tire footprint when you air down. You have low profile tires now and those are great for cornering on the highway, but they are not good off road. The rule of thumb for off road is the sidewall height being half the diameter of the rim. Once you have that, let your tires down to 10 - 15 psi depending on the footprint. Also many off road tires are now in load range D and E. Those are too stiff. You want load range C. Best sand tires I ever had were load range B which you can't get anymore. Best case scenario is to have a street set and off road set to put on to play
