Default Roof rack for a boat?

Is their a design for a Roof Rack that has a winch to pull up a 12" aluminum boat? I would really want this rather than buying a boat trailer

Im sure you could lift a 12" boat up!! joshin ya, i dont really see that working very well cause you would have to be pretty deep in the water. Draw a pic of what your thinking and post it and i bet some guys could give ya some ideas!

Joe,
Are you wanting to haul it right side up or upside down canoe style. I you want to just set on end up on the back of the rack and slide it up in place the rollers across the back as suggested would work, plus I would put on in the middle. If you want something to help do the lifting for you, that becomes a project, but I believe do-able. Do you know about how much the boat weights?

Upside down canoe stlye and i was hoping to make a roof rack out of it also. I was just wondering if anyone has done this, but ive been doing a few sketches. A rough scetch on paint is my idea. U think it would work??

do you have a front bumper mounted winch? i'm sure you could just use that.
maybe put a roller on the front of the rack for the winch cable.

as for foam, you can use a pool noodle and just cut a slit and slip it over the gunners on the boat...

i use my warrior rack for my canoe all the time. ratchet straps hold it fine, no need for front or rear rope.

hrrrmmm, just a thought, with the winch there, its not gonna be able to the the boat past the fulcrum. so youd have to unlock the winch and push it forward so its centered over the roof... so maybe put some kind of a cross bar on the front of the rack that would extend to like the middle of the hood that the winch cable could loop around to pull the boat forward??? i gotta think about these demensions and do a sketch... now i wanna build something...

with your design the rack would have to be over 6' so get the boat to a point that it wouldn't fall back on you when you unlocked or freed the winch... maybe a foot or so extender in the front or make the rack over hang in the rear by a certain amount....but when your driving you want the boat be as centered over the roof or more as far as mpg goes..
