Replacing the headliner in my '94 XJ?! QUESTION

The headliner needs to be replaced, it is starting to come undone on the edges , and the glue stop holding it in place.
The jeep came equiped with the "sound bar" in the back, ( anyone else have that ?"... it bumps out a little in the back area and has 2 round speakers in it..... anyways... and the headliner is completly off of that part.
How hard is it to replace it all? Are there special instructions for do it yourself, or should I take it somewhere? I would like a nice tight fit, so it doesnt flap in the wind , like it is doing now.. LOL!

What material is best as well.. felt, velour, etc...

Thanks in advance, I am a "newbie" :wallbash::icon_redface:

google can be your best friend at times like these.

ya, tried that.. Thought maybe there were some "words of wisdom" from someone who actually did the project on the XJ.
Thx.

I'm actually about to do this my self for the second time. Words of wisdom... .don't cheap out on the glue and use plenty on the fabric and the headliner it self.

Cost of doing it your self 40-60 bucks. Cost of a Pro doing it 80-150 and probably not using your Jeep for several hours. Difficulty from 1-10 I'd say 3-4.

Its not hard at all, time consuming maybe. Taking the headliner out and putting it back in is the most time consuming part.

Basic steps:

1-Take all retainers off that hold the headliner (light, handles, trim)
1.2-Take headliner out
2-Scrub off all loose foam with wirebrush
3-Cut fabric to fit
4-Spray glue the headliner and the fabric
5-Wait till glue is tacky (very important)
6-Start from the middle (may need help) and start placing fabric on headliner
7-Leave at least 1" or more of fabric over the edges of the headliner and fold over
8-Let dry and put it back in

I just did mine in black vinyl. For being the first time it didnt come out half bad(just a few wrinkles here and there). I dont have pics of the whole process but here are a few.

I did mine in camo the same way "1000Jeep" did his and it came out great. Just make sure you use this: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...be2VP2LSN43Qgl
Pricey but worth it.

Its been about a year, with 90 degree weather and its still holding on strong.

What would be the best method for this if I don't have any liner up there at the moment? I bought my XJ with the headliner removed and just whatever is underneath it is exposed. After seeing that sexy black vinyl liner, I kind of want to do the same.

If it's just the fabric and foam that's not there then skip the part of removing the fabric and foam and keep going from there.
