Renix Engine Monitor

Anybody else been following the this guy on YouTube. He made a plug-in device to monitor renix engine readings. pretty cool. He's gonna be selling them too. Just thought id share.

I ment Renix, not renox

Jimbo Slice 09-25-2016 03:51 PM

Yeah, NickInTime was one of the first YouTube channels I subscribed to after I got my Renix.

He seems like a really smart kid that isn't afraid to jump in and tackle just about anything.

I just wish he didn't curse so much. :naughty:

I've been trying to help him a little through Facebook messages. The 2.5 and 4.0/manual are causing troubles.

But FYI, renix scanners aren't a new thing.

Nick and I have been chatting back and forth. He's really down into the "guts" of the ECUs.
I'm not much help to him.

I've talked to him here and there for the past 2 years, told him if he wants to take the ferry over he can play with my '88 aw4 XJ but can't get it up to him.

Been going back and forth with him last few days. This whole deal might be simplified. I need to send him photos of my DRB in action.

Wonder if I could tinker with it in reading and adjusting the only sensors/electronics I have. A MAP, O2, CPS and Injector. Everything else has gone bye-bye.

I got the first alpha unit over the weekend. already used it to troubleshoot a problem, will be using again to make sure my new o2 sensor works properly!

and I hit it with some blue paint just for fun:

Some observations based on my use of the factory tester.

The 02 sensor should start switching from .1 to 4.99 within a minute of a cold start. It is NOT temperature triggered. It does have an electric heater though. Voltage at that wire in the connector?

To test for knock sensor being good, rev the engine to about 2000 RPM and you should then see a reading of about 20 or so.

As for the TPS, you're testing the wrong connector. Should use the flat connector.

I have a new o2 sensor, I am going to be replacing mine with tonight. I bought cheap, and that was a mistake, I now have an NTK ready to go in tonight/tomorrow morning.

Make sure you have power to the O2 sensor heater with the key on. Red or orange wire at the connector.

Engine has to be running. No heater with key on.
