I'm sorry but...

Nobody in the history of time has ever done a rear main seal.

There could be a good chance that the rear main is not your leak. In most cases it's the oil filter adaptor and valve cover that leak and makes it look like the rear main.

Ya it started dumpin 5 quarts a day so i decided its time to finally do it lol. It woulda been easier but the oil pan was a pain in the *** to get out and the oil pan gasket was just barely off so it was a pain to get the bolts started

the hardest part for me was getting the pan back on without messing up the gasket and rtv.
If I could have done it on a lift it would have been much easier.

I drained the oil and pulled the pan the night before so it wasn't really dripping on me. at first the new seal worked.then after a few days it leaked a very little but no dip on the ground. after about a month it was completely dry and (knock on wood) still is

I'm pretty sure my oil pan gasket is leaking. It looks pretty straight forward, just unbolt and drop, what makes it such a PITA?

Not so bad if you drop the starter and jack up the front of the XJ (the body so that the front end hangs down a little) so that the front of the pan clears the steering components.
