rear bucket seat bracket
 

im looking for your fabricated brackets for your rear bucket seat conversion. how you did it and what you used. pictures are a huge plus:) im getting 2 front xj seats tomorow and want to put them in the back. i already have a good idea how i want to do this but not quite sure. so post up and again pictures are awesome

Can't be done. Not without putting short people (sub 5") in the rear or chopping out the floor board.

I bought 4 Corbeau Baja RS seats, hoping to make it work. Talked with three fab shops and nobody would take the project.

Ever seen a 5" + tall person sitting in the rear?

It is true. I've taken front XJ seats and mocked them up to mount in the rear. The same with the Corbeaus. The seats simply don't work for adults while retaining the stock floor.

Yes i have seen someone over 5' in the back seat without the floor modified. There was one at Va4WD's annual meet in March. I'll see if i have a picture of it or not. It all depends on the bracket you fab as to whether or not an adult can ride back there.

ok bud it can be done. you just have to look outside the box. why dont you just take off your stock bracket and make your own thats only about 2 inches tall??? as soon as im finished ill show you what i did and how a 6'2" tall person (me) can fit in stock xj seats on the rear. with 3 inches to spare

I did take the bracket off. I also tried a Corbeau Baja RS seat with no bracket. You have two options when looking at this mod. Give the rear seat very little leg room, and I mean only inches, or have the headrest almost on the ceiling.

I'm not telling you not to do it, I'm telling you that I spent a lot of time and energy, physically took the project to three shops, all very well known local 4x4 shops, and nobody wanted to do it because the outcome wouldn't be usable.

I also talked in depth with a few other XJ owners that have tried it and none have ever been successful. The only one I have seen that looks decent had the roof chopped.

just finished the project. freaking awesome. everything is all put back and my buddy who is a big fella can get back there. 6'6". it worked ill get you picures tomoro

ok every one this is how i did it. cant really do a step to step how to with pictures all the way cuz well i was lazy and didnt wanna take pictures while working. so here is the 98% finished product just disassembled.

first thing you wanna do is take apart your front xj seats. just the brackets off the seat frame. and remove the bottom seat cushion

place it in the rear. (your rear seat should already be out by now) and use the existing holes from the bracket. line the front bracket holes up with the cross member. mark where you want on the cross member. drill out the two holes. then get your angle iron. i used 1.5x1.5 Attachment 61503

next cut out a 16" long piece of your angle iron. line it up on your cross member mark and drill out. i welded the angle iron but i guess you could bolt it up.

now your gonna have to do some fanagaling trying to get the right angle for the seat since the seat rails are in a u shape.

now we have to get the rear set up. i used two 1x1 4" long square tubing welded on top of eachother. you will have to cuz an angle on the bottom tube so that it compensates for the angle on the rear.

line up your rear mount in the rear with the seat still bolted to the front. line it up and mark where the stock bracket bolts are. now you wont have room do to both since the floor has a hump in the way making it no possible but there is another hole closer just drill this one out larger and use this one. mark it and drill it. you will have to make an oval drill so the bolts can fit up threw the top while goin in the side of the square. do a test bolt and mark where it where it needs to be welded. weld and bolt up your new rear bucket seat :):) any queastions feel free to ask. i am going to be putting a few more braces in there but for now it is good. i had my buddy sit back there and try to break it. hes 415 lbs. so its good for now.
