Question about larger tire vibs and noise
It sounds kind of dumb asking a question like this but here goes. I took a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with a 3.5" lift and 31" tires for a test drive today. Right away I noticed the loudness the tires make even with windows up. There are vibrations throughout the whole jeep (not death wobble just vibrations). The jeep rides amazing at slow and high speeds so I was just curious if this is a normal thing when driving on pavement with larger more aggressive tires compared to stock? The tires are All-Terrain T/A BFGoodrich tires.

Sounds like some angles are off. The BFG AT is fairly quiet and rides about as smooth as a street tire. Could be the rear drive shaft causing the vibes. Cheap bandaid fix is a t-case drop. Older models don't usually have the issue till around 4.5" but newer ones, approx 96 and up tend to see more vibes with smaller lifts.

Those tires have a little bit of a hum to them, but nothing crazy. There should be no vibrations if it was setup right however. Noise can be better transmitted into the cab if the control arms were replaced with ones which have solid joints instead of bushings.

I myself got a Rough Country 3'' lift recently. I also got BFG ATs. The tires are great and aren't noisy at all. The only time I hear some road noise from the tires are in the rain cause they're really grippy.
I do get alot more clunks upfront though |
So what should I check for? How do I check the angles?

I'm having the same problem right now with the vibes. i do have a transfer case drop and haven't had any problems. all of the sudden it started vibrating around 25mph only when accelerating. any ideas? just changed all u joints both in the front by the tires and the rear drive shaft

If the tires balance is getting set off it will get a bad death wobble. Like mud etc. |
