problems with 94 grand cherokee laredo
 

We have shifting problems with this jeep. It doesn't want to shift right going in to 2nd and 3rd gear. Doesn't seem quite like a slip but....A mechanic friend tells me its the shift solenoids. He wasn't real sure though. Also, how do I figure out what type of transmission is in this vehicle? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

You might check/adjust your TV cable.
*With engine off, press the D-shaped button and push the cable housing all the way in (pic 1). Release the button and twist the throttle to wide open position. You should hear the adjuster ratchet as it clicks into position. That's all there is to it.
*Pic 2 shows the cable housing extended. The housing can be off a bit one way or the other, but if it's too far out of adjustment either way it won't shift properly and can eventually damage the transmission.
