Pretty happy with this.
Was bored today, and jacked up the rear of the XJ, started spinning the rear pass tire, and Voila! The drivers tire spins the same way! Locked FTW! Didnt try the front, but I was pre sure they were locked when it burned both of the rears down pretty well.
Anyone know if there were stock lockers in the D35? I have a conservation jeep if that means anything. Think it has the police package? It's got bigger brakes in front, it's a pretty slick dick quick runnin unit, and I have a spotlight, so I have no idea if any of this would relate to the axle?

It is mostly likely a limited slip rear diff, the XJs did not come with a true locker from the factory. The limited slip is a great improvement over an open diff, but still not as good as a locker.

Not very rare, yet still difficult to come by. The front axles on all XJs were open diff. The only way you could be locked up front is if a previous owner install a locker.

Just watch the clutches in those, they aren't know for longitivity but farely cheap to replace. Once they are worn it is basically an open carrier also make sure you use a friction additive during oil changes or else it'll burn them up.

I had one of those Limited Slips in my TJ, I had the rear axle serviced once (should have done it myself) and they forgot to put the additive in. It destroyed my limited slip and I had to rebuild the whole rear axle.
It is a nice limited slip, you should be able to feel it kicking in when driving in icy, snow, or muddy conditions. As the one wheel starts to spin power is transferred to the opposite wheel to maintain traction.

There also was a front limited slip listed in early model dealer option lists.. But I have never seen or heard of one actually being installed.
I have been trying to sell a couple of them for months. I see them on fairly regular basis.
