Polar Vortex. How U doin' ? ?

XJ started up like a champ today in -2F.
Battery is one year old.

Go Barnacle !!

-4 here yesterday and also drove the XJ knew it wouldn’t let me down and the heat would keep me toasty !

Ralph77 02-01-2019 02:38 AM

Also -4 here. Without the windchill. -10 to -25 with.
Jeep was a little slow cranking but started on the first try. My battery is 5 1/2 years old.
All the noises that I usual here for the first few minutes when it is this cold.
Trying to hold off on the new battery till I do my alt, battery cable, and aux fuse box upgrade.

So. Much. Salt.

Jeep and Subaru seem to be okay. Little noisey and the Jeep clatters for a bit after a true cold start, but we're moving still.

The salt though. It's vindictive how much is on the roads right now in Rochester NY. So much for my original rocker panels.

Ever use Fluid Film? Won't do much good for the rockers though. If there is a way to get inside them I don't see it.
Been meaning to drill some holes and get some body plugs to get in there.
Figure I will go at it with the Eastwood Internal Frame Coating first and then just Fluid Film regularly.

This!! My jeep fired right up at -9 yesterday and -4 this morning. I can practically hear the salt and brine eating away the body.

Use it on my Subaru. The Jeep is Cosmolined - black on the undercarriage and RP-342 (which is similar to Fluid Film) on the rear quarter panels. I really don't want to undercoat the rockers because they're original and so bright and pretty. Even still, this salt is seriously something else. I don't know why I bought a rust-free Cherokee to drive every day in the northeast...

Lowest I saw this week was -16 but with the wind wow. All I can say is I love my under armour outside most of the day and a lot at night and would not be posable without them. my local parts store sold 133 batterys this week alone.

It was pretty cold today. Cloudy and 63. Had to put on a sweatshirt...

I dont know how you guys do it. I've been in -20 windy weather before and it really sucked.

You just described summer in upstate NY

the 2 coldest mornings i got off work were -9 and -15. wind chills were -25 to -40. xj was fine. i did cover the entire radiator with cardboard. believe it or not i made a 20 mile drive @ 45* with the rad still covered and it didn’t get hot. i also averaged 15 mpg last week with almost 6 hours of idle time. it normally hovers around 18 this time of year. i got to play in the snow a few times, so it wasn’t a total loss.

23* here at my house right now and snowing pretty good.

Yeah, the rain from the day before had frozen to make a tight seal of the doors. I had to push and pull to get them open. Then I heard I lot of whining from the engine compartment, as I figured the grease in the pulley bearings was nice and cold.

For some reason there was a strong smell of gasoline at the back, so much so I crawled underneath and looked around. The smell was there but I could not see any leaks. And I haven't smelled it again. Go figure.

But now it is in the 50s and everything is fine.

After the cold snap a couple days ago 50's yesterday and 60's today.
Thinking going to get the Jeep washed today.

Yeah, my Jeep is covered in a hazy layer of salt and dirt.
