Pipe Bumpers
Alright fellow jeepers, I need some advice and insight. I have a bunch of stainless steel pipe to make bumpers out of but they are blued from the heat at work. I am trying to figure out if there is any type of paint that bonds well with stainless steel. I am also trying to find out a good design for a beefy front bumper. Please help?

Is the pipe magnetic?

If it's stainless, it won't be magnetic...unless its ferritic or martensitic, but that's less common. I'm not so sure I'd want to use stainless for a bumper, it's also more brittle than mild steel...

While I believe there are paints specifically made for painting stainless steel, most oil-based paints will work as long as you scuff the surface first (a sander works well for this), and use a primer rated for stainless (many etching primers are rated for stainless, just check the bottle/can).
You can also powder-coat stainless. |
It's galvanized that's difficult to paint, not stainless. Paint it like you would anything else, Prep Primer Paint.
It's easy |
Anybody got any pictures of their design front and rear bumper? Needing suggestions!

The OR Fab rear tube bumper has to be my favorite design for an XJ

There are literally thousands of pictures of XJ bumpers on Google, this site, NAXJA, pirate, hardline, and every jeep website ever.
Just buy mild steel and build something. |
