New to the US - How to check if dealer registered & sent title to DMV?
Hi guys,
I am fairly new to the US, here for 5 weeks now and bought a 1997 ZJ 3 weeks ago from a used car dealer.
A few questions I have:
- The dealer said in about 2 weeks I will receive my title, registration, and license plate via mail. However, I have not received it, yet - after more than 3 weeks.
Should I be worried?
- How can I check whether the dealer has done his job and sent everything to the DMV correctly?
- Is there some proof he has to provide me with, some document which states that he has filed all the neccessary documents to DMV? Cause I didn't get any regarding that when I bought the car.
- He put a temporary driving identification into my front window. For how long can I drive with that?
Thanks, Best regards,
Hans

Return to the dealer and talk to them directly or go to the DMV with all of your sale documents in hand.
There's no limits on where you can go with a temporary tag as long as it's not expired.

It took a month for my daughter to recieve her plates and registration when she purchased her Eplorer from a mom&pop used car lot. What state are you in?

There has been a delay with the California DMV for registration renewals for some reason. When you feel like getting out of the concrete jungle of Sunnyvale, you should head North to the Chico area for some off road fun.
