New! - Extended Warranty Opinions - Overland Hemi 2006
Hi -
I'm new here. I've had several jeep gc's in the past few years and loved them. I switched to an Edge and just traded it in because it was going to need a new transfer case. Might have been our fault for putting new tires on the front and not on the back for a couple months. Anyhow, found an awesome 2006 Overland with the hemi. 114k miles and in pretty much mint condition. Probably normal scratches outside but the interior is like brand new so it's been well cared for. My question is, do you think an extended warranty would be a good idea with this engine? I'm female and I don't drive crazy, lol! Just normal driving. I don't want to end up with a big bill if anything goes wrong but I know jeeps are well made. What do you guys think? Thanks!! |
I'd get the extended warranty on the ford first ....
|
I think I got a bad model year on the ford - the 08's got the worst reviews as far as trouble.
It's the hemi that kinda scares me but I just don't know whether to spend the $$ on the warranty. I'm thinking not. |
Do more research on that engine and year model to see what else you can come up with I know a few had issues. If the warranty isn't more than you can handle it is a safeguard for sure. It all depends on how well the prior owner serviced and drove it during those yrs before you got it.
I have a 2004 Overland that I bought 4 yrs ago that looked like new inside and out one owner a sales rep it had 201,000 mi. on it. But it had every service record done on it at a Jeep dealer since day one in the glove box with it. To date I have had no issues with it and it had every option offered that year by Jeep all still work fine. If repair costs are a big worry if something might happen then buy the service agreement just in case, but read it carefully and ask questions some are tricky. |
Have a mechanic look the jeep over before you buy it,Its cheaper to spend a little now vs a lot later if it has problems. And like said do your research on that model and year jeep.A lot of the newerish jeeps have not been on the most reliable list lately so keep that in mind.

Most any problems would have probably occurred by now. With parts & labor costs being what they are and the technology involved in that vehicle, I personally would purchase an extended warranty.
Be sure and read it carefully and ask questions about areas that don't seem clear to you and do not sign it until you do understand it. As has been stated, take the vehicle to a reputable, skilled technician to look it over thoroughly before signing anything. If the current owner will not allow it to be inspected by your technician, walk away. Good luck. |
Look over what is required of you for the extended warranty. We had a customer denied a transmission replacement because he didn't have service records for oil changes. He only drives the vehicle 8k a year and had it changed at 3k intervals, but it was not what they required him to do. He ended up replacing the trans out of pocket. So if you get it, follow their requirements exactly, and keep your service records.
Another thing to know is that there are shops who will not service cars with extended warranties. They're a pain to deal with and most shops don't want to deal with the song and dance. |
Don't fall for it. Aftermarket warranties are worthless. They always come up with a reason to deny coverage. The Hemi engines have a good reputation. Just have it inspected by a trusted shop.
