I asked this before on one I was looking at but decided to pass on as it was a 2000 and didn't want to risk head trouble.

This one is a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport with a 157,800 on the clock. It's one of the better XJ's I've looked at. He had it listed at 3600, with said issues I talked down to $2350.00. He wants it gone because it's the oldest vehicle there and really only has $15-100k cars he deals in.

Here are the issues: It's on a luxury car dealer's lot (Maserati's and other very high dollar vehicles) and it's been sitting in the back fenced in area for a year taken as a trade in.

-From sitting the alternator seized and killed the serp belt
-Driver's side window does not roll up
-Looks like some external leaks on motor, but all fluids looked good as well as coolant being full.
-Rims leak air from corrosion
-I'm not sure if an animal got in while it was sitting or what but rear interior could use a good cleaning. Has a smell with fur back there. I would rip carpet out any POR anyway.
-Rust is not too bad at all (For being a Michigan vehicle and compared to other XJ's I've looked at)

Starts and runs nice (even with low battery power from sitting and no alternator)

The title history checks out good as 2 owners, it's exterior is very clean with one spot of rust on the roof corner by driver's door/windshield and small spots on rockers. Solid underbody, solid floors, has rare sunroof that didn't appear to leak.

Is this worth the money? 2350.00
It will not be a DD, but a weekend warrior/trail rig/utility

Nothing wrong with it that can't easily and relatively cheaply be fixed. I'd say go for it. BUT I bet you could get him down lower on the price. At least down to 2k.

Goferit! And start the build!

Well it's a 98 that's great looks like a clean jeep... If he changes the alternator it's worth the price this way you know it runs correctly... That's one of the things that bothers me about it... It also looks like it needs tires... Keep us updated ;)

I agree with what he said. 2k is a nice number for that jeep. Looks clean.
