Default Moving, might have to sell the XJ.

Whelp, on my 14th b-day (yesterday) of Active duty service in the Navy I found out that I got 3yr orders to Sicily.

Although I am super pumped to go with my family I might have to get rid of my XJ. We have 3 vehicles and the XJ is my project rig I was converting to full time DD and hunting machine. My wifes car is going to Sicily, my Tacoma will get sold but if the XJ can't get stored on the govs dime it might get sold as well. I have inquired on what storage will cost. Hate to sell it, it's a clean 01 that I've got a butt load of money tied up in.

The storage facitly I inquired about partners with DOD. They seem to be pretty good and will pull your rig out and take it to a shop if you wanted to get any maint done. The best option for me would be to store it in TN and have a shop there do an LS1 converion while I'm gone. That would be sweet to come back to the states for.

Just venting...

Is storing for 3 years an option? I really hate to get rid of my Jeep. I have a ton of money tied up in it. I could put it out at my wifes parents under a tarp and her father will start it for me from time to time and drive it. He is pretty good with stuff like that. I just hate to sell it.

if you store it under a tarp, also put one on the ground with the side pulled up and then one over the top, pulled down as close to the ground as you can.

This way, water cant get under it. also, if it has tires on it that you care about, I would remove them and store them inside somewhere with a good protectant on them (and I don't mean armor all, it will actually destroy tires)

I found a nice cover that is "suppose" to help with hail storms. Being the Jeep would be in Oklahoma and all. The tires are new but I really don't give a crap about them (treadwright). I am just afraid of issues that I am going to have when I return.

as long as it is kept dry and started/ran through the gears every few weeks, you shouldn't really have any problems. jack it up and put it on jackstands (or logs under the axles if it will be on soft ground) so that when he starts it, he can put it in gear and run it through the gears.

Put it on stands. Drain tank and start motor to run lines dry. Pull plugs and spray cylinders with something like seafoam spray. Pull battery. Place a damprid bucket inside. Cover with quality cover. Kiss it goodbye and come back in three years. Do full maintenance, New gas. Start up and smile driving it.

I have bought vehicles left outside for years and got them running cheap. They never had any prep and were ok.

If you prep it right. It doesn't need to be touched at all, while you gone.
