mosquito screen for hatch?

has anyone out there put screen draping down from the top of the hatch to keep mosquitoes out when sleeping? i plan to sleep in the back of my jeep many times this summer and i already have an airmatress that fits almost perfectly except it sticks out of the back of the jeep like 6 inches so i was trying to find a way to keep mosquitoes out with the hatch open.

the screen would drape down from the bungee cords, would that work?

*note this is not my actual jeep

thanks, joma

ps. i know there will be a gap at the top will bugs can get in but i figure its better then nothing

Well you can get those huge mos nets they use in Africa and places such. Then just drape it over the top and maybe bungee it too the wheel well. You can def fan something up

im 5'9 and 17
why not use a tent or something
I guess having an air mattress would be different though

I dunno, but that's a great idea for an expedition rig...I might have to steal your idea lol.

Some people don't have a choice thanks to the economy.

i actually set up a tent but my friends slept in that lol and idk its just cool to sleep in the Jeep. makes you feel like your jeep is an all in one tool and all you need is your jeep.

ive actually come up with another idea that will work better because there wont be that gap between the bungee and the top of the hatch but i feel like if i tried to explain it no one would understand lol but if i do it i will post pictures

alright heres my attempt at explaining my NEW design:

Attachment 372544
-the blue line is a 1 inch pvc pipe that would be on top of the roof sitting on the crack made by the hatch
-anything inside the red lines would be the screen (note the screen would wrap around the side slightly)

my design is similiar to that of curtains in which there is a full length loop at the top of the screen and the pvc pipe would slide through that holding it up (like a flag slides onto a flag pole). i would also put some weights/rocks/something on the bottom of the screen to keep it still.

Worst case scenario, there's crank up tents that mount to the roof of the jeep. Fits 2 adults comfortably. I gotta see if I can find the name of it

but im on a highschoolers very tight budget, thats why i was looking at fabbing up something myself and those roof tents creep me out lol i feel like i'd forget im so high and and fall out

I know you're on a budget...but look at the 4th tent down in the link below...You might be able to rig up something similar on your own. Covering the whole hatch door gives you more room too..

The screen will work 100%. We drive jeeps that means we are creative. Also get mesh for the rest of the windows so they can be down during the night. When you get it done take some pics
