lookin for a Cherokee
Hello All, I have been looking for a Cherokee for the last couple of months. I have found several but always wait too long and lose it to another buyer. I am curently looking at a 1988 four door with 100K. Jeep is rust free runs well, everything works, and is completly stock. $1800.00 what does everyone think? are there any pros or cons to this model.

wow...100k. that's pretty good. that's like 4 to 5 k miles a year for the past 20 + years. how does the jeep look inside and out? has the PO replaces/rebuilt anything since owning it? i would think it's a good deal. but again, i'd have to see its current condition.

the inside is in good condition(no holes or rips), the paint is faded but no dents. Not sure of any rebuilt items but just had the cat-converter replaced

doaxj is also correct. you can prob a later model. but again the later model, the higher the mileage (or maybe not) it has. you could prob try & talk the owner down on the price (below $1K if doable - being that it's a 20+ year old XJ). but the fact that it has 100K miles that's pretty much the owner's selling point. i have the same year but mine has 225k and still running strong.

does your 88 show the full 225k or just 25k? I need to look closer on this one. steering wheel and break pedal does not show much wear.

no...mine truly shows 225k on the odometer. when i took over my jeep - it had 156k & a descent paint job (look at my pics). my XJ is solely my DD. so for the years that i've owned it, it's served me well. & now as my XJ pushes it's 22 year mark, the engine just seems to be unstoppable. granted that i keep maintaining it. i might even be able to pass it down to my daughter when she starts driving.

I too say you can do much better for that price. I just picked up a stock 1999 cherokee 4x4 in very good condition for $1900..... and looked at 2 others one 98 and another 00 model for under $2100.
