Lockers on a DD?

I drive my jeep everyday i was wondering about some lockers? If yes what kind? Also re-gearing i am going 4.5 rough country with some 32x10.5's. My xj is a 96 4 door how do i know what transfer case i have? Also does xj not have a limited slip stock? ( I am very new to this stuff)

The answers to your questions are all over these forums. Just take an hour and read build threads and search the tech forum for words like "locker", "4.5 RC", and "limited slip".

People differ on their opinions of how a locker affects on-road driving. Since you seem to have a big budget, a selectable one might be good. You probably have an NP231 tcase, like 98% of all real Jeeps, unless you have full-time 4, but that's not common. Neither is the tow package that I believe included limited-slip in the rear, so you probably don't have that, either. Would have been nice as a standard feature, but eh, then they would have been more expensive and probably not sold as well.

Some people are Jerks.
Contact JEEP and get a Build Sheet for your XJ, http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universa...ull&category=U .

Lockers for a DD is pure preference. But the best way to go would be a Selectable, like OX or Eaton.

With 32" tire I would only regear to 3.73 or 4.10, that I DD. Depending on which axel you have, 96 has 3 possibilities.

Build Sheet will tell you if you have limited slip.

If you have 2HI, 4HI,N,4LO on the TC shift bezel you have a 231, if you ave 2HI,4HI,HFT,N,4LO you have 242. If you have the 242 DO NOT use and Autolocker in the front, the 4FT function will be disabled.

I had a 94 with a locked rear end and it was my dd. It was also on 33s. I didnt have any problems with it. I miss it in my current jeep, but hey its in the future for sure. So as said before its personal preference if you want it for a DD. can it be done? Yes.

Preference and budget.
If you have the cash, selectable is really nice, as it is completely stock until you don't want it to be.

ARB, OX, and Eaton.

People rag on ARB a lot, but it is 99% installation when it comes to reliability. I read ripped off lines, melted lines, air leaks, this, that, but like with all options, installation is key. I have a 19 year old D44 ARB in the front of mine that is yet to have a problem. Suck it, haters :tongue_smilie:.

If you do not go selectable, you will need to be especially mindful of your front locker selection.
