Lock my stock axles? Or pick up a set of dana 44's from a friend cheap?
I have a low budget at the moment so i was thinking of throwing a set of aussie lockers in my stock axles for the time being, but a friend of mine is tring to get rid of a set of dana 44's from an 80's grand wagoneer for cheap. would it be better to do this swap? I know i will need new rims, driveshaft, re-weld spring perches and warn manual hub locks. Is there anything else im missing that i would need? And would this be a better idea to grab all the parts over time and install 44's or go the quick cheap route of some aussies. Im not in a huge rush to lock at the moment either.

Im only running 32's at the moment, id be willing to do the custom fab work if i can account for all that will be needed, i am able to pick up the front and rear axles for $100 so thats why im asking wether it would be a better idea in the long run

are you getting both D44s for 100 or 100 a piece>? either way thats a pretty legit deal, if you can do all the fab work yourself then i would highly suggest picking those up esp if your not in a rush to lock the axles, these are a significant upgrade over stock xj axles, esp if you have a turdy 35 in the rear. again though the questions you need to ask yourself before asking what parts youd need for the D44s are what size lift n tires will you be running, what kinda wheeling will you be doing. is this a trail rig or street queen? upon answering these questions the answer as to whether or not grab the D44s should be pretty easy.

Yeah thats true, ill see i might still grab the axles just because its a crazy deal, but my 8.25 should last me long enough to figure out what i want to do. Would be awesome to have D44's under it anyway
