Default Just got 2" lift, now can't get in and out of 4wd

I got the 2" lift this weekend, and when i shift into 4wd a tire locks up on my right side and wont stop locking up even when i put it in 2wd. I have to stomp on the gas to get it back to normal 2wd . The tire the locks up doesnt completely lock, it does it 1 time then rotates, then locks up again over and over in that pattern. Any help is greatly appreciated

It has nothing to do with your lift. You have the same jeep as I do. And nothing connects or disconnects at the axles. So this is all in your transfer which was not altered from your post.

Also sometimes it takes a forward/reverse mover to unlock the transfer case.

The only other thing I can think of is you actually broke a front or rear axle?

More information would be helpful.

Type of lift
transfer case drop
did you do it or someone else

This may sound like a dumb question, but had you ever used 4wd BEFORE the lift?

Sounds to me like your transfer case is either messed up, or the front diff is screwed.

so your saying the wheel physically locks up?
or are you saying the at the front tires are still pulling after selecting 2wd?
if you did do a cross member drop on a 2" lift youll need to adjust the linkage but for a 2" lift you shouldnt need a drop.
like stated sometimes it help to select 2wd and back up a bit to get out of 4wd.

Are you putting it in 4wd and trying to drive on pavement? It will bind and lurch if.you do that. It is also not good for.your XJ to do that.

  • I got this lift used from my neighbor who also has an xj, so all the lift parts camr from his jeep. It was aluminum blocks in the back leafs, 2" coils to replace the stock coils, and then replaced all 4 shocks with 2" shocks
  • No tcase drop, figured the lift was too short for that we didnt alter it at all
  • I did the lift with my neighbor so i seen everything that happened and nothing went bad

For example when i try going into 4wd it will make a tire skid like this - - - - - (the dashes are where the tire would skid, its not one long skid like this -------) sorry hope that helped

It sounds like your t-case is not disengaging properly. I had this problem recently as well. I ended up starting the Jeep, put the trans in N and then putting it in 4 LO then back into 2 WD. I had tried doing it in park, rolling forward in drive at about 5 MPH, rolling backward in reverse at about 5, rolling forward in N and rolling backward in N.

Get off-road and try it again. See if.it still does it and let's take it from there.

This^^^^ Is the right way to disengage your 4WD system! Your front axles are always locked but this is how you make sure the Tcase is disengaged. Also check all your linkage for binding or broken bushings.

Quick Reply: Just got 2" lift, now can't get in and out of 4wd
