Joecam18's Cross Country Trip 2: Homeward Bound
Hello all,
7 months ago I drove from Southern New Jersey to Northern California due to internship. I now am heading back east to graduate and finally receive my degree. This thread is to log my travels as I drive across the northern and middle parts of the country over the following 2 weeks.
XJ stats:
- 2000 Sport
- 160K miles
- 31 x 10.5 Firestone Destination A/T
- 3 inch lift
- Rotella T6 oil
- 784 fuel injector mod
- EMT roof basket
- Recently changed tranny filter, gasket and fluid (hopeing it doesnt explode)
- No AC
- No cruise control
I will be posting pics, logging how my heep is running and just posting general info about how things are coming. Below is a link to my original thread from my east --> west trip!
My favorite picture from last trip

CPS is first that is gonna get replaced and if it continues to be an issue the ignition coil will be next. Grounded for the day. This is gonna change my pace for the next stops as I have a timeline I need to keep up with. No stops in South Dakota :/ worried about continuing to have issues so I'm gonna try to keep it straight as I head east. Gonna look at leases for a daily driver when I get home. Can't hang with the reliability of my jeep any longer

Well team, thats that. Jeep is sitting at the shop in West Yellowstone Montana and is waiting to be picked up for cross country shipping back to my mechanic in NJ. Shop said the computer needs to be replaced which only a dealer can do which is 90 miles away. Decided to cut my losses due to my timeline and needing to be home for graduation. Going to fly home and get this jeep fixed up at home, and retire it to a project car and get a DD for lease. As im becoming a professional and graduating i need something more reliable. Ill get the pics from my trip uploaded asap

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I know all about losing a car on a road trip. My old Cadillac threw a rod going down the interstate and dumped all the oil out the bottom. Rented a car for the rest of the drive home, never saw the Cadillac again; I did get a check from the junk yard in the mail a couple weeks later. Took the money and got my XJ.

Shipping her back is less than repair? Well, it sure shows love for the Jeep. She is lucky to have you Joe! Sorry you are missing out on the cross country road trip.
