Default How loud is a locker?

I am going to be putting a locker in my rear axle and i just wanted to know how loud they were or how bad they affect ride quality. Would an Aussi locker make as much racket as a detroit? I am willin to spend more for better ride quality sence my jeep is my DD for at least the next 6 years.
oh and I dont want to put in an air locker id rather go with an automatic.

Just enough to be noticeable, nothing too crazy. Just turn the music up

Just make sure the cross shaft is in good condition.

Check out the New Yukon Spartan Locker. Same if not cheaper then Aussie, Made in U.S.A. Comes with NEW cross shaft, and has Spring pins that make installation a complete breeze. I put one in the front of my 5.9 and love it!! I hear a slight Clank/click noise when doing full lock turns on occasion, but for $229 and 2 hours to install, I am very happy!

No clutch packs on the Spartan, they are a "lunchbox" type similar to Aussie & Powertrax/lockright...Tj

OP.... two things to consider...

First.. you have an LSD axle.. make sure whatever locker you want will work with that carrier. ALOT of the lunchbox type wont fit inside an LSD carrier. I have an EZ-Locker. I know there is NO chance of fitting it in an LSD carrier.

Also.. street drive-ability with a auto locker is HEAVILY dependent on your driving style and your road conditions. I live in an area that gets alot of snow and ice.. If I drive heavy footed in those conditions having a locker in the rear, gets real interesting, real quickly.

I am getting a new housing when put in a locker, i learned about this a while ago and thats why it has taken so long to save for a locker.

X 2 . I'm with Scott here. I have an Aussie in the rear and a Spartan in the front. Spartan was a simple as it gets to install. Had to pull the ring gear and carrier on front and about 2 hrs total time.

Detroit soft locker are really quiet. I put a older model Detroit locker in the rear of my one ton Blazer and it made a lot of noise when it would unlock. The one I put in the front was a new model of the Detroit and I never heard it lock or unlock except on the slick rock in Moab. ( it wasn't that loud just a little pop not the ratchet sound )

It can make all the noise it wants to off road, just street driving is where id like it to be somewhat quiet. Im thinking aussi bacause of price and i cant find a spartan for a 29 spline 8.25.
