IRO LCAs installed...clunk
 

Ive got a 3" lift on my XJ and realized my stock arms were a little short causing bad caster etc..
There was no noise from suspension, everthing was tight.

I installed my adjustable IRO LCA's and didnt grease the rubber bushings...now when I go over a bump you can hear a clunk at the arms??
Was I meant to put a shim inside the housing...adjustment loose? Or needs grease?

Do the bushing/sleeves fit the mounting bolts? Did you leave the LCA mounting shoes off? Shims go behind the shoes to adjust caster with fixed arm. You would't normally shim with ADJ arms.

I put IRO adjustable lca's on mine, no grease no shims. Just bolted them in and torqued them down tight...no clunks. Possibly a junk set they sent you? Are you sure that's where the clunk is coming from? Maybe pull them and inspect for defects.

Also did you leave the adjusting boot thing(forgot what its called) in the frame end? They are supposed to stay in.

I put the adjustment end at the frame end, not the axle end.
Whats the torque specs for the bolts ( i used the same through bolts from the stock ones

That's the correct way to install them but not what I meant. 93gc40 refers to it as a shoe, its a "u" shaped piece of metal with two threaded studs attached to it. Torque the long bolts through the bushings to stock specs. Something like 120 or 140ft lbs if I recall, don't quote me on that.

Also the axle end requires less torque than the frame end.

Im guessing the mounting bolts are smaller size? Will check that soon when i get back under there.
What are mounting shoes?

Problem solved. I had removed frame end, jacked the front up. Retighten bolts and adjustment nut.
Lower down....test drive no clunks. I obviously was not strong enough first time round to torque those bolts up

Glad you got it worked out. This worried me too, put IRO's 5.5 Long arm kit on last week and had clunks. Checked torque specs and I had the rear lowers torqued to 110 ft lbs. IRO recommends 120 ft lbs on all lowers and 60 on uppers. Weird because the uppers feel loose but I torqued the lowers ten more ft lbs and clunk gone.. Amazing what a torque wrench can do!!
