Inside windows fogging up!

'98 Cherokee, 4wd, daily driver. As of Wednesday morning the windows have been fogging up. I washed it that morning before leaving out and figure maybe I got water in the cowl where the air system intake is. They fog even with the defroster full blast. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and what they did to fix it. I've been driving it everyday since July and never had this occur until now. Oh, I have enjoyed reading on the forum. Seem to be good folks on here! I don't smell antifreeze in the cab and the coolant level is unchanged.

Don't use hot air. Makes it worse on a cold window. Turn heat to more of a colder setting. Works every time to make fogging go away

I've tried every imaginable setting and they still fogged this am. It's crazy. Never seen anything like it in all my 40 plus years of driving.

check your passenger floor board for water

And if you're not expecting rain, leave your windows cracked to let it air out.

Have you actually tried cleaning the interior of the windshield? Over time the inside of the window will get a film on it that will make it fog up more easily. Drop by an auto parts store and pick up a pack of microfiber cleaning cloths and a can of Invisible Glass. Spray the Invisible Glass on the cloth (because if you spray it on the windshield it will go all over your dash) and wipe it down. You may be amazed at the filth that will be on that cloth. Then go over the window again with a dry cloth.

Additionally, if you did clean the windshield interior already, did you use something that left a film behind? You might want to do it again with Invisible Glass or a comparable glass cleaner. Windex sucks for this purpose.

The folks at my dealership washed my other car a while back and cleaned the windows with something horrible. I think they may have smeared Armorall on them. The first time it rained, my windshield went opaque out on a two lane country road at dusk. I managed to limp into the next town, where I stopped and got some Invisible Glass to fix it. Haven't had that problem since.

Three times this past winter I went to find my Jeep having ice on the inside of my windshield, that was fun to scrape off, and I also get the occasional water on the passenger floorboard, I'm assuming windshield leak as the same for you. It'll get fixed eventually.

I'll do the invisible glass. Thanks for the tip.

I'd say heater core is crapping out.

+1 on check the heater core.

I had a leaky heater core and all my windows would fog up whether I was using the heat or not.

I think your right on the heater core. I ordered one just now. How big a job is it?

holycaveman Nov 7, 2014 08:56 PM

Oh just about an hour. Not a big deal. Maybe can do it on your lunch break?

Jeep factory started by suspending the heater core in mid-air, then built the jeep around it. Good luck..
(If you have done it before, it is less of a nightmare.. This is the one time a Haynes/Chiltons manual will help.)

About 2 hours to get the dash out, another 30-40 minutes to disassemble and re-assemble the HVAC box, and another 2 hours to get the dash in.

It's faster if you've done it before. I just did mine.

Replace the evaporator while you're in there. You need to evacuate the AC system.

Either your windows are dirty or you smoke in the jeep.Or its the heater core like others have said.Do a pressure test on your coolant system see if you have a leak.If that's fine clean the inside of all your glass and use rain-x anti fog it does help.
