I have an idea for XJ doors....Tell me what you'd think of them!
So, my brother and I were looking at his XJ and he wants tube doors, but would rather make some then spend $300 or however much they are since he can weld. I said that it would be pretty cool, but why not make what I'd consider a "hybrid door"?
Basically, it's a tube frame door like any other that uses factory hinges, but has removable, weather-sealed body panels that simply bolt onto the frame along with a plexi-glass or some kind of window that attaches the same way. Panels would be either aluminum or stainless steel sheet metal and have sound/ heat blocker on the inside.
Frame has tabs for mounting your speakers with multiple tabs for the most popular sizes. Would also possbily use factory latch mech or something that works just as well.
So, there's my idea....Would it sound like a good idea to try? Might even think about trying for the same idea for the liftgate....

Thanks, Snake! I know I wanna do it so that all the door seals would line up as best as possible to keep water out. Also for the liftgate, maybe some integrated tailight protection cages.

So like clip on doors? The tube doors are the skeleton and the shell clips on....I like it. Question is how to weather proof and how to clip on this door that has to be modded or slimmed down. Only thing that I can think of is a pulled pin method

As for how to mount them, they would bolt in place on the factory hinge. Simply unbolt your old doors and bolt these up in place. No hinge pins to remove, just swap doors out when you want. There would be a flat section on the door with nuts welded to the back for the bolts.

Window is removable. Probably four bolts/screws that hold it to frame. Easier to deal with then Wrangler style windows.
