Default i have a 1996 jeep cherokee i wnat to change to 4wd

my jeep cherokee is 2wd right now and i want to convert it to 4wd beacuse i already have a lot of money under the hood in performance parts so any suggestions on a easy way to do this. i was thinking bout changing the tail houzseing on my automatoc tranny buit i dont know how hard the could be or if it can be done and still work

What type of performance parts!
Uhhmm
Best way to do this is get a same xj as yours from a junk yard that has;
Front axle with matching gears to your rearvaxle.
Front and rear drive shaft.
The transmission and t case.
And the shift linkage for the tcase.
Also the cross member and trans mount.

Also lots of time and work to do this.
I am in the middle of the swap. And it takes a lot of time. Right now im probably just going to buy an xj thats 4x4 and keep my current one. Dude to time issues.

i has k&n cold air intake forged pistons board .30 over. cam aluminum heads and head work i got a performance chip with the trottel body adn fuel injection upgrade. but the reason i want to swich it to 4wd is beacuse i took it mud riding last night and i was goin place 4x4 could not go so i want to see what it will do if it is 4x4 and i have a shop and lift and another jeep just a little bit older than mine hoe long do u think it would take to do this swap

Find a nice late model XJ with a blown engine. Perferrably a 2000-2001 with the cracked head. Swap engines. It will probably be easier.

do u know were one is i cant find one for under 600 and i can get the parts for 300

Or just find a beater xj.
For a parts jeep than transplant the whole drive train.

i can go to pull a part and get the parts but can u just use the tail houseing off of a 4x4 instead of changeing out the whole tranny.
